Sister Crofts, Joe Xue, Sister OlsenSo it's been a really good week. A week of blessings for sure. Sister Billings and I have been working really hard since day one of this transfer and we are sooo exhausted. Dog tired. Feels good......But yesterday I could hardly form a coherent sentence haha. I even put a plastic carton of mushrooms on the hot burner! Luckily it only took me about three seconds to realize it. And then I had to clean off the burner today. Anyway, last week we had very little food because our allotment hadn't come in, and last Wednesday at the grocery store Sister Billings' card got declined. And I had no money to spot her, so it was a little sad haha. BUT this week Sister Billings theme song has been "Consider the Lilies" haha. She sings it everywhere we go, because people have been giving us little bits of food left and right! On Sunday we were knocking and this lady was like, "I'm on my way to church, but here are some fresh muffins!" And this hippy guy a few days before gave us a five dollar bill that bought us a trip across the bridge and TP! hahaha. He had no idea how much that was needed. We've been very looked after this week. Poor and tired, but happy and blessed. No one read this and be concerned, we're just fine, allotment came in this week haha. We really do try to be good money managers. And then today out of the blue Elder Tanner traded us for a new car! That was a little over the top, haha but we're excited about it. It's a new four wheel drive Subaru like the new one I drove earlier this year.
Anyway, on Friday Sister Crofts called me to tell me that Joe Xue was getting baptized on Sunday between sessions!!!!!!!!!! I was so happy. I got permission to go and I surprised Joe when I showed up. He was excited and surprised to see me! He came back from China maybe a month ago and now is finally getting baptized! It was a great event. His "family" in New Brunswick came and his Canadian "dad" baptized him. The Spirit was definitely there. And I just felt so privileged that I got to see his baptism!!! It was a blessing beyond compare. I never even thought I would see him again! He seemed so content and ready. I know that this kid has a very special plan in store for him. He's incredible and will have GREAT influence in the world. I loved being there at the baptism, and seeing Joe, and seeing old faces, and I decided that I LOVE Halifax. It's basically a part of me. Probably my favorite 6 months of my mission. So anyway, good news!
The other week, we knocked into this gentleman who was outside re-finishing a boat. He told us that his son who was maybe 20s or 30s had just passed away three weeks ago. He had just found out that this was his sons boat and so he wanted to refinish it for him. We had a good talk with him and had to finish our conversation pretty quick but we left him something behind. Then we tried to stop by a couple times since, and just barely got to talk to him yesterday! We had another really quick but really good conversation and he loved what he'd read and wants us over to share more. So we scheduled for as soon as he could and that is next week. I really felt so empowered as I bore testimony and talked to him for the brief moments that we did. His name is Miles. And I can't wait to meet with him again. Moments like these you really love as a missionary.
Well I better close, I hope everyone is doing well this week..........Have a good one and count your many blessings (from a missionary who is currently counting).
Much Love, Sister Jen Olsen
