Hola everyone!
I'm sitting here in the public library and there is a man up like power sawing out the winder frames above us. So I am being blasted by wood and dust.....and it's noisy and great fun! Kind of hilarious though. I'm covered in white specks. So a little bit about this week....
I haven't had the chance to watch women's conference yet. We're hoping to get together as a Relief Society and watch it soon. Conference is this weekend!! Yay!! We're really praying for it to work miracles like we know it can. We've invited tons of people out to the church to watch it. You know that was something I so took for granted. Here it isn't broadcast on any local television - no one would sponsor that out here. And it's on from 1-3 and 5-7. Priesthood will be late from 9-11. That makes it hard for people who have to travel to the church to see it! We are so blessed at home.
We went and visited this less active maybe 70 year old woman names Phyllis who lives in Springhill. Found out randomly that she has been to Idaho Falls! It was ten years ago after visiting the visitor's center with her daughter (who lives there) that she decided it was finally time for her to be baptized. And so she was baptized in Sugar City! Small world. She can barely get around and has to cart around an oxygen tank with her everywhere. And as she was telling me that she can't get to a temple let alone church each week.....she said that she would give anything to be able to go to Idaho Falls one more time and see her daughter. Her life, her two legs. Anything. It about broke my heart. Here I get to return to the place I love and call home soon enough. We told her that even though she can't outwardly express her devotion to the Lord, that she still can inwardly and shared a good scripture with her.
We do service every week at a couple of different places. We play Bingo in Highcrest, an old folks home. Some of the old men there are so nasty and flirtatious. It's so gross. Hard not to laugh and encourage them. But oh boy.
The other night Sister McEwan and I got talking about some things that came up with an investigator....and anyway she felt the need to tell me that they had problems with our apartment and had to get it dedicated or blessed or whatever not too long ago. I could have killed her for telling me that. hahahaha. I told her never to say anything like that to me ever again. Ever. Never.
We went to the Pentecostal Church here on Sunday! It was interesting for sure. I won't go in to detail. But wow, it makes me so grateful for what I have been raised in. There is a lot of religious diversity here. Why was I chosen to be born in the covenant? If I grew up like that, it would be like taking 90% of myself now and throwing it away. I don't know if that makes sense. haha. But I am so truly grateful. They say the biggest convert out of a mission is yourself, and I can already see that.
We've had some good knocking experiences this week! Talking to people is all good, but the initiating is really tough for me. But we came across some very good potentials that I'm excited about. We'll see what happens!
We had dinner at the Tolley's again this week! It makes me so incredibly happy that they know Idaho Falls! They know my home! haha
Alison is a recent convert that we see. She is so amazing. Her and her 8 year old son Christopher have been working with the missionaries for a long time. She's just so innocent and sweet in the gospel. And so giving to us when she has so little. I love her. I hope she works through some of her big challenges with smoking and such.
So guess what........we got ANOTHER flat tire yesterday!! At night too. haha. We ran over a nail or something. The man whose driveway we pulled into wouldn't put the donut on for some reason, so he just pumped more air in and we drove it back to our apartment. I don't know if he didn't know how or what. But Murray who lives in the house upstairs put the donut on for the night. And we got the hole plugged today. It was so funny though! I tell ya. I just might be able to do it the next time...haha. I'd give it a shot.
Anyway, everyone write me!! I would LOVE to hear from you! Hope all is well, and Love you all!
Love, Sister Olsen
